About Evony

Evony: The King's Return (Evony) is a massive multiplayer online (MMO) game. Goal of the game is development of own city, leadership, technologies, troops; alliance; and ultimately own server. It is a classic infinite game for an infinite player.

Mechanics of the game

  1. Game is a good strategy and growth online multiplayer. You need to gather resources (RSS) in order to develop your city.
  2. There are 45 development levels (as of February, 2024). Each of them is exponentially RSS intensive than previous one.
  3. Resources (monsters, and resources themselves) are limited at a given moment, but regenerate every 4-6 hours.
  4. For better growth of your city you want to be part of an active alliance: 50-100 players who are allies. Allies collaborate by hunting monsters, exploring relics, rally, training and battling together.
  5. All rallies which alliance create give equal prizes to each of participating players. Hence, 10 player rally will generate 5 times more prizes (alliance wide) than 2 player.
  6. Other alliances. Other alliances live on the same server can attack and behave like barbarians preventing you from gathering resources (RSS), destroying your troops, plundering your resources.
  7. Other servers. After server becomes mature enough - every two weeks it is matched to another server for "Server vs. Server" competition. The match is in 6 stages: 5 are typical stages needed for growth, and final stage - Server War. During Server War other server can substantially reduce your progress, and reduce growth during following couple days after Server vs Server competition.
  8. Game does have in-app purchases for real money, but what is interesting, every resource could be efficiently obtained via normal game activity.
  9. Each player decides for themselves what they are: predator which diminish your world as other players drop the game (on that server), or engaging collaborator who remembers simple: "it takes nothing for a candle to light up another candle".
  10. That's briefly. Read other articles on this blog for details.

Conclusion

Fun part: mechanics allow for players to be aggressive on the same server, but common sense tells that worlds (servers) which employ game mechanics as given have no chance against worlds which promote collaboration.
Mechanics of the game allow for strong monarchical leadership, but alliances which does not employ decentralization are naturally on a long run will fade. This might take a lot of time as some players do spend a lot of $$$ on their gear.
Hence, this makes game even more interesting rising team of players who understands what it is to be "a Leader. not the leader".

Let's go!
